Flimflammer Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale) and his partner, Sydney Prosser, (Amy Adams) are dragooned into working with FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper) and end up being thrust into the shadowy world of politicos and the mafia. Not an enviable spot to be in. Rosenfeld and Prosser don’t plan to be the victims in the FBI agent’s harebrained scheme. The question is, which hustler will be the last man (or woman) standing?
American Hustle has already snagged a slew of nominations, including seven Golden Globe nods. David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook, The Fighter) had a stellar cast to work with and he didn’t squander all that talent; he elevated it. –p.d. lee
