When it comes to Suge Knight, most people think of words like “controversy” and, well, “villain” to describe him. In a recent interview with TMZ, Suge discussed the titles he wears when it comes to his race and like the true controversial celebrity he is, he explained that he doesn’t like to be called African-American. Instead, he’d prefer to be called the n-word.
While chatting with TMZ, Suge was asked if he ever gives people, presumably white people, a pass to call him the n-word and that’s when he replied that he prefers the n-word over African-American.
“It depends on how you saying that s— or what you’re doing with it. But when you really look at it, a lot of people say the n-word,” he said.
“A lot of times when people say the n-word, I like that better than African-American. We’re not from Africa. We’re black. Even Africans don’t call themselves African,” he added, further stating that rappers and other black people shouldn’t be the only ones given passes to say the word.
In our opinion, the word is too stained with the blood of the millions of black people who heard it throughout their lives and as their last words before dying because of racism, oppression and violence to ever be used as a term of endearment by other races. Even within our own race, the blood of that word still stings.
But we’re not the only ones who had an opinion about Suge’s comments. Check out what rappers YG and Public Enemy’s Chuck D had to say about the matter after the cut. – nicholas robinson
