New speakeasy on Mulberry Street: Project 1919

In the area of New York known as “Little Italy” it’s easy to get distracted by the bright lights and host’s flashing menus. Known for its ode to Italian cuisine and culture, there is also an underground matryoshka doll of an eatery that has transformed their seasonal garden into a full-blown three-month, pop-up speakeasy.

Project 1919 is an ultra swanky hideaway located on, 149 Mulberry Street. To find it look for a red door at the bottom of a stairway, nestled between a store that sells “over 1000 bags” and an Italian eatery.

Once you make it past the dapper gentlemen in a well-tailored suit, you will walk up a set of stairs into what is the coolest adult backyard clubhouse.

Project 1919 at the Mulberry Project is the newest venture from restaurateur and owner Nick Boccio of The Project Group. The Project Group is noted for innovative cocktails and “trendsetting cuisine”

For Project 1919, mixologist Sam Ziar (Orient Express, Le Grenier, 50 Parties, and The Bourgeois Pig) and Jasper Soffer (Spice Market, Soho House, Pegu Group, and Shochu Lounge) have created a menu of rotating cocktails featuring “… barrel-aged spirits with a focus on dark blends, in addition to a daily Bartender’s Choice cocktail.”

Getting  a seat involves advance reservations so be sure to book soon as space is limited and so is time!
