On Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, as Jordan Davis’ parents sat in the Duval County, Fla. courtroom awaiting the verdict in the trial of Michael Dunn, the man accused of murdering their teenaged son in broad daylight for playing loud music, the parents of Trayvon Martin offered words of blessing and prayers.
They confirmed no matter the verdict, Jordan Davis’ parents won’t ever see him again.
Martin’s parents also reminded us Davis’ killing is “yet another reminder that in Florida, racial profiling and stereotypes” may serve as the basis for illegitimate fear “and the shooting and killing of young teenagers.”
Davis was killed by a single bullet which severed his aorta. Dunn claims he shot the unarmed teen in self defense.
After more than 25 hours of deliberation, the jury was unable to reach a verdict. The judge declared a mistrial on the count of 1st degree murder.
Davis’ 19th birthday is tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014.
