CIA agent Ethan Renner (Kevin Costner) is dying. He wants to spend more time with his daughter, and he might get that extra time, if he agrees to take on one more assignment. His boss (Amber Heard) will give Renner the cure for what ails him if he takes out a few targets. (Wait, the CIA wouldn’t blackmail one of their own, would they?)
Costner is in fine acting form as a shaggy, older operative who’s slightly out of step with the modern world, but completely attuned to how to roll with the punches as he hunts down a suspected terrorist.
This taut action-thriller doesn’t miss a beat in keeping the audience engaged and on edge. –p.d. lee
