Robi Reed is a casting director who has been a part of black cinema and television’s most historic and beloved movies and shows. Some of her work includes “Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X, and the sitcom “In Living Color.” Reid recently attended the Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon. The luncheon was wall to wall with the most powerful women in the entertainment industry with a special honor going to actress Lupita Nyong’o.
Working behind the scenes allows Reid to uncover the gems in the entertainment industry. Reid describes one of her most memorable discoveries saying, “I love what I do and I’ve been blessed to do it. Of course when I can, I love ushering in new talent. Before he was Jamie Foxx, I saw Eric Bishop on stage at a local comedy club with a gold tooth and one good joke. At the time, I was casting ‘In Living Color.’ Looking for a star is intangible. It’s in the eyes. It’s a little spark.”
