Chris Brown diagnosed with mental illness, sent back to rehab

A Los Angeles judge has ordered embattled singer Chris Brown back into a rehab facility for two additional months.

During a recent hearing to determine if Brown violated his parole for his part in an alleged assault of a man outside a Washington D.C. hotel,  the judge ordered Brown back to rehab until a verdict in the D.C. assault case has been reached.

This occurred despite the director of Brown’s rehab facility sending a glowing letter of recommendation to the judge praising the singer’s progress: “Mr. Brown is able to use behavioral strategies to manage acting out on impulses. Mr. Brown is teaming relaxation exercises that will reduce consequent impulsive behaviors.”

Still, Judge James Brandlin wasn’t having it and sentenced Brown back into the rehab facility until his trial in mid-April.

The timing of this additional rehab stint could possibly be a silver lining for Brown. According to documents obtained by TMZ, he has been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Insomnia.

According to the documents, “Mr. Brown became aggressive and acted out physically (in the Rihanna incident) due to his untreated mental health disorder, severe sleep deprivation, inappropriate self-medicating and untreated PTSD.”

Brown is now on meds for the bipolar disorder and other conditions.

The documents state that during Brown’s recent rehab stint he “learned various relaxation exercises” and tested negative for all drugs.

The facility says Breezy works hard and even rises at 5am consistently. The letter to the judge also praised Brown for his dedicated community service saying, “Mr. Brown’s attitude has been beyond exemplary in regard to his community service responsibilities.”

Here’s to hoping that this extended rehab stay is just the thing Chris needs to get back on his feet and continue his music career.
