A sheriff responding to a criminal investigation eventually became the suspect of a crime after allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl.
According to reports by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Clayton County sheriff’s deputy Phillip Emanuel Richards, 42, was arrested in Jonesboro, Ga., on March 8 shortly after midnight.
While inside of a home, the 13-year-old alleged victim said Richards climbed on top of her as she was on the floor sleeping. Richards began sexually assaulting the victim until she was able to run away, climb out of her window and scream for help.
Richards has since been arrested and is being held at the Clayton County jail without bond. He is currently on administrative leave without pay.
