A man in New York settled with the New York Police Department after police officers forced him to rap his way to freedom.

According to the New York Daily News, Quinshon Shingles, 27, was arrested in a Brooklyn apartment by police officers David Grieco and Joseph Patton.

The officers tricked the apartment’s super into giving them a duplicate set of keys and entered the apartment without a warrant. When they barged into the apartment, they handcuffed Shingles and the apartment’s tenant, Donyale Kitchens.

After questioning Kitchens, the officers approached Shingles and told him that he would be set free only if rapped for them. Shingles agreed to rap, but he said he was humiliated during the process.

Shingles reported the incident and filed a lawsuit against the NYPD officers. He was awarded a $7,500 settlement and Kitchens receive $4,000.

Both officers are still employed by the NYPD, but Patton is now a detective.
