A man in Tuscaloosa, Ala., was arrested after he threw boiling hot grease on his girlfriend while she was sleeping. According to WALB-TV, Dwayne McGraw, 40, and the woman argued about their relationship ending before the attack.
At some point, McGraw began cooking and the woman went to sleep. McGraw took the frying pan off of the stove and walked to his girlfriend as she slept on the couch. She woke up and saw him standing over her. He then poured the hot grease on the woman, who began screaming after the attack.
She was transported to a nearby hospital where she was treated for severe burns on her face and arms. It is expected that she will survive, but may be in for a long recovery. She is currently in the hospital’s burn unit.
Police began searching for McGraw and found him hiding in a nearby abandoned house. He was arrested and charged with first degree domestic assault. He is currently in the Tuscaloosa County Jail being held on $60,000 bond.
McGraw and the victim have a teenage daughter together.
