Pope Francis’ Easter Mass
Pope Francis marked Easter Sunday in Vatican City where he prayed for peace on the steps of St. Peter’s Basilica. According to the Associated Press, people young and old and of various backgrounds turned out for Easter mass and listened intently as The Pope called for an end to terrorist attacks against Christians in Nigeria. He also touched on Ukraine, where pro-Russian supporters and rebels are at odds.
Noting the ongoing bloodshed, Pope Francis asked that Christians “enlighten and inspire the initiatives that promote peace in Ukraine, so that all those involved, with the support of the international community, will make every effort to prevent violence.”
He also encouraged believers to come to the aid of the needy.
Easter’s “good news” means, “leaving ourselves behind and encountering others, being close to those crushed by life’s troubles, sharing with the needy, standing at the side of the sick, elderly and the outcast,” said The Pope.
Pope Francis’ Easter mass brought out over 150,000 people.
