When word spread that Aaron McGruder would not be returning to helm the fourth season of “The Boondocks” due to what Adult Swim referred to as “scheduling conflicts,” some could not help but to wonder if that was code for his being forced to relinquish control of the show that he created.
In a recent interview with the Huffington Post, actor Michael B. Jordan, who provided the voice of troublesome R&B singer Pretty Boy Flizzy in last week’s season premiere, told a different story regarding McGruder’s departure:
“Aaron is actually a buddy of mine. And honestly I forgot. He had to tell me, not that long ago, that he got fired from it. And I was like, ‘What, really?!?’ It kind of caught me off guard, I totally forgot.”
Though Jordan admits to “not knowing the specifics” of the situation, he says he doesn’t like the way things unfolded:
“But not knowing the specifics behind it or whatever … So you can’t really make that call. I’m not sitting in those rooms. But to see my boy pushed out was a little messed up.”
McGruder has a new show in production with Adult Swim called “Black Jesus.”
