The seventh annual National Train Day on Saturday, May 10, has its best-ever slate of programming with nearly 300 events in all 50 states already signed up to celebrate why trains matter.
Cary, N.C., will be among 17 other cities in North Carolina including Durham, Rocky Mount and Hamlet that will celebrate National Train Day. The events are free and open to the public.
In Cary, the event will be held at the Amtrak Station, 211 N. Academy St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature fun activities such as face painting with Clowning Around with Justine, a trackless train ride, train & fire truck bounce houses, and tours of a historic railroad hotel at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center. Event offerings will include appearances by local dignitaries as well as food and entertainment. The event is sponsored by the Heart of Cary Association in partnership with Amtrak and the Town of Cary.
Train enthusiasts in North Carolina can take advantage of a special fare for children.
