Porsha Williams apologizes for homophobic sermon

Porsha Stewart-Williams

Porsha Williams came under fire from the LGBT community earlier this week when TMZ released an old video of her giving a homophobic sermon during her evangelist days. Now, after enduring a wave of backlash from angry fans, Williams has apologized, saying that her sermon was taken out of context.

In the video clip, Williams speaks with her congregation about the duties of Christians and says it’s their job to “save” the gays and lesbians from hell.

“Don’t let the devil tell you, you ain’t worthy of God’s blessings. He wants to use you no matter what. That’s what we Christians supposed to be telling the hooker on the street, the drug dealer, the person in the hospital from trying to commit suicide, the gays, the lesbians; we supposed to be trying to save them and tell them, ‘You are worthy!’” Williams declared.

Shortly after the inflammatory video hit the web, Williams released a video to People, apologizing on camera and saying “Jesus loves all his children.”

“First let me say that God loves all of his children,” she says. “And although some people discriminate against others because of their race, their religion, their sexual orientation, their status in life … we’re all worthy of God’s love.”

Williams then explains that the short clip posted by TMZ doesn’t show the full context of her sermon.

“I apologize that those words hurt the LGBT community, my fans, and my supporters,” she continues. “Life is a journey, and I’m growing every day. And I continue to encourage everyone to love each other unconditionally.”

It’s commendable that Williams was quick to release an apology – unlike her fellow homophobic “RHOA” offender NeNe Leakes. However, some of her other cast mates aren’t buying her apology. Check out what they had to say about her sermon after the cut. – nicholas robinson
