Chicago violence continues to reach deplorable levels. A pregnant woman allegedly killed her boyfriend because he didn’t buy her a gift from the mall.
According to reports by Chicago Sun-Times, Miata Phelan, 24, became furious when her boyfriend, Larry Sanders, bought gifts for his brother and cousin. Phelan accused Martin, 28, of being selfish and began arguing with him in the car.
She punched Martin while he was driving and nearly caused him to lose control of the steering wheel. Martin’s 8-year-old son and cousin were also in the car. When the couple returned to their apartment, Phelan locked everyone outside. Martin banged on the door and she finally let him inside the apartment.
The two continued to argue and Phelan stabbed Martin as his 8-year-old son watched in horror. “This is what you get for messing with me. I hope you die mother f—,” she yelled at Martin according to Illinois Assistant State Attorney Glen Runk.
Phelan is seven months pregnant with Martin’s child and was eight classes away from earning a bachelor’s degree at Columbia College.
Phelan, who entered the Cook County courtroom with a swollen eye, was held on a $3 million bond.
