Toni Braxton revealed some extremely shocking news this week when she appeared on “Entertainment Tonight” to talk about her new memoir, Unbreak My Heart, in which she writes about a secret abortion that she had more than a decade ago. Now, more details have been revealed about the book, including dark revelations about her family’s religion and her struggles with money and beauty.
According to Lovebscott.com, in the memoir, Braxton opens up about her religious roots and explains that her family was part of a Apostolic Pentecostal congregation, Pillar of Truth. Braxton, nearly compared the church to a cult and explained that women were expected to “cover their nakedness” by wearing skirts, dresses and full stockings throughout the year, or you “would go to hell!”
“I began connecting religion, God and church with judgment, anxiety, and guilt. Our family had fallen into religious extremism,” Braxton writes.
Braxton explains that her strict religious upbringing had a major effect on her body image and she struggled with the idea of altering her body and showing skin because she thought she might go to hell.
“I’d been wanting to change my nose for years — I wanted it to be less broad. But because of the conservative ideas I was raised with, I struggled with the thought of altering my body,” Braxton writes.
And her nose wasn’t the only thing she wanted to change. Braxton explains that wanted bigger breasts and smaller thighs as well.
“And of course, I later got my boobies done. I’d always been shaped like a gymnast-size double A breasts and thunder thighs. In fact, I wish I would’ve had lipo on my inner thighs. I’ve always hated them,” Braxton writes.
Well, Braxton’s life story has never been dull, but those are certainly some major revelations about the inner workings of the pop star. And you can find out even more about her past now that her memoir is now on book shelves everywhere. –nicholas robinson
