Nicki Minaj is prepping her third studio album, The Pink Print for release later this year, and the hip-hop star reflected recently on her ambitions and her legacy as an artist. Minaj has been one of the more polarizing acts in hip-hop over the years, with critics taking aim at her image, her musical choices and her performances. But Nicki is focused on getting to the top of the industry and providing opportunities for others.
“I want to be a mogul,” she said during an interview with I-D Vice. “I want to have multiple businesses where I can employ hungry people, people who are eager to learn. I want to have foundations where I can put people through college; I want my Barbs to be smart, not to be crazy and foolish, and not to depend on boys.”
Minaj is one of the most heavily marketed artists in music and she has major endorsements, including a clothing line and perfumes. But she says her greatest ambition is to motivate and to remembered for everything that she’s done. She wants to be thought of as one of the all-time greats.
“I want to do something to inspire people all around the world,” she says. “I’d like to be remembered as one of the great rappers and a mogul, an actress, a mother and a wife.”
