This sci-fi action flick features Major William Cage (Tom Cruise), a soldier locked in a battle with aliens. Cage relives his last battle over and over, gaining new skills with each resurrection.
Cruise is at his best in the action genre, and he does not disappoint here; fans can expect to see an unexpected side of the actor. Bill Paxton is an underappreciated talent who adds immensely to the progression of the plot.
Critics have been touting the comedic elements in the film, and some have even compared it to Groundhog Day, although that may be more a nod to the storyline’s endless loop, rather than it being loopy. Given the subject matter, one would expect it to be a dark film, but it does have surprisingly lighthearted moments. You need something to break up all that intensity. –p.d. lee
