3. Fatima – “Do Better”
I got hooked on Fatima earlier this year on the strength of two of her singles that constantly stayed on repeat for me. When her album Yellow Memories dropped, I found another favorite. Not only can she pull off funk and soul over future beats, she can also get down on a piece that sounds like it was recorded at a concert hall. Over blazing trumpets, loose percussions, and piercing flutes she bares her soul just to tell you how she can do better: “been tasting that sweetness, but I ain’t reached the last step.” I think it’s something many people can relate to.
