Jermaine Dupri says Chris Brown will be bigger than Tupac

Chris Brown BET Awards 2014

As Chris Brown is in the midst of making another comeback, there’s one former music mogul who’s definitely in the singer’s corner. Prior to yesterday’s 2014 BET Awards, Jermaine Dupri spoke to Miss Info about Brown and said that he has the potential to be bigger than hip-hop icon, Tupac Shakur.

“He’s a star,” Dupri said. “I told people when he came out of jail, he’s going to be Tupac. He’s an R&B singer and a singer’s music is supposed to go farther than rap. And, it stretches over different boundaries. To me, he’s going to be more famous than Tupac. I mean, it is what it is. I just feel it. He’s a star, and I can’t front on it.”

Brown’s career has been constantly marred by controversy, yet the singer seems to always find his way back to pop prominence. According to Dupri, Breezy’s gift for performing is his ace-in-the-hole.

“When he performs, watch how people act about him,” Dupri said.

Lmfao. When I heard this on the radio I couldn’t believe it. Just the fact that Tupac is still a relevant comparison 18 (?) years after his death (which people still don’t even know if he’s dead or not) shows just how big Tupac is. He is a legend, an icon. He is one the few faces of rap. When you think of R&B you don’t think of Chris Brown, you just don’t. You don’t even really think of any men when you think of R&B, so he hasn’t even broken past the women dominance barrier. When Chris Brown’s dead, he will be dead. Sure people will be sad and care while the moments alive, but he will not be relevant decades after his death. He will not be still dropping hits AFTER he’s dead and truthfully, there’s a lot of people who won’t even care that he’s dead because he’s absolutely tarnished his reputation. The only people still caring about him are the hardcore Breezy fans that wish they were the one’s getting beat up by him. Other than that, he makes his hits and people listen, but it doesn’t go further than that. Just the fact that Jermaine Dupree is the one saying this already says a lot about how dumb this statement is.
