Beyoncé sure knows how to stir the pot.
The singer is currently in the midst of the On The Run Tour alongside her superstar husband, Jay Z. During a recent performance in Ohio, Bey raised a few eyebrows as she was performing her 2006 song “Resentment.” She changed the lyrics of the song, which reflects on the infidelity of a lover, and it seems like she may have been addressing those ongoing rumors that Jay has strayed.
The original lyrics reference a six year relationship with someone who has now betrayed her. Beyoncé performed the song in a white wedding dress this past Saturday, and changed the lyrics to what sounds like the time she and Jay have been together.
“I know she was attractive, but I was here first,” sang Beyoncé. “Been riding with you for 12 years, why did I deserve to be treated this way by you?”
In 2006, Jay and Bey had only been together for about four years, so the original lyrics had nothing to do with their specific relationship. The public first got wind that they were dating in 2002. So the switching to “twelve years” seems to be a pointed reference to their time together.
