After tackling the unarmed woman, the officer began punching her in the face. The woman never punched the officer back, but the officer punched her in the face 15 times. Another police officer arrived at the scene and helped the officer arrest the woman.
The unidentified woman wouldn’t give officers her name. She was transported to a local hospital and evaluated for injuries.
CHP police chief Chris O’Quinn said the woman was walking barefoot on the highway and nearly walked into traffic before being approached by the officer. The officer suggested that he beat the woman for her own safety.
The Los Angeles Urban League has called for a full federal investigation. The CHP police chief has yet to reveal if the officer involved will be reprimanded for the beating.
