Rich Homie Quan’s close friendship with Bryan “Birdman” Williams has led to widespread speculation that the young hip-hop star will soon officially sign a deal with Cash Money Records. But in an interview with XXL, Quan indicated that there is no reason for fans to jump to those kinds of conclusions.

“I’m helping Birdman with the Rich Gang project,” said Quan. His explained that his relationship with the Cash Money founder is one of mentorship. “Birdman is more like a big brother I never had,” he shared. “He gives me a lot of creative advice. A lot of wisdom. I just kick it with him every day, we just a family.”

Fans may be clamoring for Quan to become a part of the YMCMB family, but the Atlanta rapper says he is no rush to ink just any deal with a major label.

“I’m just still waiting on the right situation,” he explained. “I want something that’s gonna be long term opposed to something that’s sort of like a fling.” But he made it clear that signing is a very real goal for him. “But yes, I do want to sign a label deal.”

He also said that he still plans on releasing his album in 2014. “I will be dropping my album before the year is out,” said Quan.
