As Iggy Azalea’s star has grown, so have the rumors that she doesn’t actually write her own lyrics. To be fair, this is a fairly common dismissal hurled at female rappers who achieve a certain degree of visibility and success. Accusing a woman of not writing her own rhymes is par-for-the-course in hip-hop, but according to Azalea’s mentor and collaborator, T.I., he’s never ghostwritten a word for the Australian rhymer — despite what anyone thinks.

“I mean, I ain’t no ghostwriter,” T.I. said to Bijou Star TV. “Iggy got her own ideas and thoughts that she presents to the world her own way.”

Tip went on to say that he couldn’t mimic or force Azalea’s point-of-view, even if he tried.

“I couldn’t write a lot of the s— she say, you know?” he explained. “I couldn’t put her thoughts into words as articulate as she does. You know what I’m saying? She just has a different way of presenting herself and her art. So, I mean— now don’t get me wrong, everybody in the studio helps with hooks and certain things like that. That goes for me and any of the other top five rappers, performers — you want the best ideas.”

T.I. previously acknowledged that Azalea being an attractive white girl was a major factor in his interest in signing and promoting her.
