Rapper-producer Warren G, like any fan of West Coast hip-hop, is excited about Straight Outta Compton, the N.W.A. biopic currently being directed by F. Gary Gray. Of course, Warren is the younger brother of N.W.A alumnus Dr. Dre, and Warren recently spoke to XXL magazine about the film’s soundtrack and shared that he hopes to work on the music with his older brother.

“Dre, he working on the movie, the N.W.A [biopic] so I’m pretty sure that soundtrack is going to be monstrous,” Warren G says. “I really want to be a part of that. So I’m going to get with him, talk with him and hopefully I can help him with the production.”

Warren reiterated his hope to be a part of the soundtrack and shared that he wants to help celebrate Dre’s legacy and recalled that it was his elder brother who was the biggest influence on his own productions, which also became a seminal part of the 1990s G-Funk sound.

“I would love to collaborate with Dre on the production because I know he’s going to be involved in a lot of the production,” Warren G adds. “My thing is I just want to be involved as far as the production, get in there and make some classic records once again. ‘Cause that’s who I look up to and that’s who taught me what I know as far as production.”

Production began on Straight Outta Compton this summer. No release date for the film has been announced.
