Nicki Minaj fans can rejoice. Her upcoming third official studio album, The Pinkprint, has gotten an official release date. According to Billboard, Minaj’s latest opus will be available on November 28, perfect for the holiday season. Minaj has already released the hit singles “Pills N Potions” and “Anaconda,” both of which were successful. “Pills…” wasn’t as big as “Anaconda,” which is currently the #2 song on the Billboard Hot 100.
A highly-touted MTV VMA appearance as well as the already-infamous music video for “Anaconda” has Nicki primed for some late year domination. But the Young Money rapper has typically gotten lukewarm reviews for her albums. Both Pink Friday and Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded were criticized for being too scattershot, examples of an artist whose reach continuously exceeds her grasp, creatively. Minaj has indicated that The Pinkprint will be more of a hip-hop album; whereas, her previous releases have all flirted with dance pop.
She indicated that the sound of the new album is more “stripped down” back during a May interview with Hot 97. And when she spoke to FADER earlier this month, Minaj explained that she was taken aback by those who dismissed her as a pop star more than a rapper. “My credibility as an emcee—I never thought I would have to explain that,” she said.
Dr. Luke, Ester Dean, Boi-1da and Detail are all expected to be involved with the album.
