Chalky White is a changed man in new season of ‘Boardwalk Empire’

The fifth and final season of HBO’s riveting period drama “Boardwalk Empire” kicks off Sept. 7, and there is no shortage of intrigue and anticipation for this last waltz with Nucky Thompson and the litany of colorful characters audiences have grown attached to from the previous four seasons. The questions abound for Thompson’s former compatriot, Chalky White, a man who ended last season with the devastating loss of both family and status. As the new season dawns, the story has jumped ahead seven years — into the midst of the Great Depression.


The most prominent African American in 1920’s Atlantic City is having a decidedly harder time in the 1930s. Needless to say, a lot has changed.

Here’s a glimpse of where the once prosperous Chalky White has landed as the country has fallen into economic disaster.
