Police scandals rock Louisville, Kentucky

Getting drunk while on the job in a company car is never a good thing and can also in your career. Unless you work for the Louisville, Kentucky Metro Police Department, which apparently tolerated this behavior from one of its officers. Metro police officer Timothy Boling was admittedly drunk last year and driving his police cruiser. Officer Boling was observed by bar patrons walking unsteadily to his police squad car where he subsequently crashed intoa curb sometime later. It gets worse with officer Boling because later that year he was having an argument with his girlfriend and drinking once again. He texted pictures to his girlfriend of him pointing a gun to his head and also his chest.

The girlfriend called police to inform them that something was wrong and she feared for his safety. Police responded to the Boling home and had to call a SWAT team when they realized he was armed with a service weapon. During the intense standoff, which lasted two hours, Boling fired his gun into the ground. The standoff ended when Boling fell into a drunken sleep and was  disarmed. But none of this got Boling fired he was allowed to keep his job and only had a 30 day suspension. Bowling is still an officer on the Louisville Metro Police Department but no longer has arrest powers. Bowling is allowed however, to keep his gun, but he is no longer allowed to drive a police cruiser home.

Police chief Steve Conrad stated “This officer is a human like anyone else. I would never leave an officer on this department or in this community if I didn’t believe they were able to do the kind of job people expect.”
