Erica Mena had the whole world in a state of shock this past weekend when she revealed at the BET Hip Hop Awards that she and her “106 & Park” cohost, Bow Wow, are engaged. Recently, Mena took time to open up about her engagement and says that she wants to protect it from the harsh public eye.

Mena discussed her engagement during a recent phone interview with New York’s Hot 97 and explained that she’s still in shock about being engaged.

“I still can’t believe it’s real,” Mena said, before explaining that she didn’t plan on telling the world about her upcoming marriage. No, it just happened, you know people had been asking.”

Althoug Mena has shared so much about her past relationships with Rich Dollaz and Cyn Santana on “Love & Hip Hop,” she says that she’s going to keep her relationship with Bow Wow under wraps.

“I’m doing things different with this one … I’m protecting this one more than ever, so this lasts the way it’s supposed to. So uh, I wasn’t really expecting to say anything, I knew in time everyone would see the ring,” Mena explained.

Although fans want to know all of the details about the engagement, including news about when Mena and Bow Wow started dating, Mena says she’s going to let things remain hazy about the beginnings of their relationship.

“I think he wants to be the first to break all that down ‘cuz there definitely is a lot of history between me and him,” she said.

And while fans may be worried about how it all started, Mena doesn’t care about the past or the future, because she sees Bow Wow being in her life forever.

“This is gonna be forever and I’m really happy right now … so just ride this wave for me guys,” she said.
