Lifetime’s biopic “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B” is slated to air on the network on Nov. 15, and the first official trailer has been released to the Web. The production has been plagued with controversy and criticism for months. From original star Zendaya’s decision to drop out of the role at the last minute (Aaliyah is now being played by actress Alexandra Shipp) to the revelation that the producers couldn’t get the rights to Aaliyah’s original recordings; there is ample reason for fan skepticism regarding the project.
The latest fly in the ointment, however, involves the trailer itself. Rapper Iggy Azalea performing “Goddess” is the featured music in the clip, much to the chagrin of many fans who don’t exactly have a favorable opinion of the Australian rapper. But, check out the trailer for “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B” and decide for yourself if this project is still worthy of your attention.
