Facebook and other social media outlets can lead to miscommunication when it comes to relationships. However, a Facebook poke led to the death of a man.

According to Mirror, Scott Humphrey of Nottingham in the United Kingdom became furious when his friend, Richard Rovetto, “poked” his girlfriend on Facebook. A Facebook “poke” is a passive-aggressive method of flirting on the social network. Some Facebook users send “pokes” as a way to initiate conversation or to draw attention from someone.

Humphrey and Rovetto were out together when Humphrey approached his friend and asked why he decided to poke his girlfriend on Facebook. Rovetto responded by saying he didn’t know the woman was his girlfriend.

Humphrey soon began punching Rovetto in the face. The last punch caused Rovetto to fall to the ground and slam his head on the pavement. Rovetto died from the fatal blow. Humphrey was eventually arrested and charged with manslaughter.

The judge assigned to the case said Humphrey didn’t intend on killing his friend. Humphrey has been sentenced to four years in prison.
