Famed erotica writer Zane is having a week of triumphant highs and embarrassing lows. With her work hitting the big screen this week in the new film Addicted, the best-selling author nonetheless has been listed as the biggest tax cheat in Maryland by Comptroller Peter Franchot.
According to numerous reports, the state has been trying to collect back taxes from the writer, born Kristina Roberts, since 2003. The Washington Post reports that she filed for bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court back in June, listing her total assets at over $1.4 million and claiming more than $3.4 million in liabilities — which includes more than $1.4 million owed to creditors and more than $337,000 in back state taxes.
Roberts joins a lengthy list of African American notables who have run into tax trouble in recent years.
