Teyana Taylor shares her truth on love, conflict, and the G.O.O.D life with Kanye West

Taylor also spoke to us about her struggles of getting an album released. “There was never an easy part,” she says. “Creating a great body of work is always the hardest part, but the easy part about it is the love for it and being passionate about it. But everything is difficult. Everything is blood, sweat and tears. You’re going to smile, you’re going to cry, you’re going to be happy and mad, you’re going to feel like you want to throw something, you’re going to feel like you want to hug everybody that walks by you. So it’s like a bittersweet situation.”

The benefit of having Pharrell Williams and Kanye West as mentors helped Taylor focus on creating when the business of music seemed to derail progress.

“Pharrell and Kanye are perfectionists and that’s all they surround themselves with and that’s all they know,” she shares. “When you’re around that, it automatically rubs off on you. So everything I do has to be perfect, it can’t be half-a–ed. You either gotta do it or not do it at all. So, definitely perfection is the most important thing.”

Although she strives for perfection when inside the recording booth and on stage, life outside of music has been less than impeccable.

She found herself involved in a public feud with Rihanna that escalated on social media. And she also had to deal with her ex-boyfriend, Brandon Jennings, dating her former associate, Tae Heckard.

Both incidents were followed by fiery responses and a slew of negative comments aimed at Taylor on blogs and social media.
