Deitrick Goes Pop
Having built his career on gospel music, everyone is surprised when Deitrick reveals that he has secular aspirations. He meets with Rhoda, who is part of his management team, and drops the bombshell on her. She is understandably reserved about the idea but nonetheless supportive. Deitrick explains that his intention is not to abandon his gospel roots, but to expand his brand. He says there are a lot of people beyond the four walls of the church that need to be touched by his music. Still on the fence about this radical shift, Rhoda cautiously helps Deitrick plan a showcase to an intimate crowd to feel out the new material he’s been working on. The showcase is a complete success with the crowd seemingly enjoying the music. Rhoda and Deitrick meet again post showcase to further discuss the new direction and how to implement it.
