Aretha Franklin, the “Queen of Soul,” has been called the greatest voice of all time, and she’s earned the right to be a little snarky. The legendary singer was recently interviewed by the Wall Street Journal and was asked to offer her take on several of today’s most popular stars. While Franklin had praise for Adele and Alicia Keys, she got decidedly frosty when the subject of Taylor Swift came up.

Instead of praising the pop star’s singing or songwriting, Aretha just gave a nod to her wardrobe.

“Great gowns, beautiful gowns,” Franklin said.

As for Nicki Minaj, Franklin was even more pointedly silent.

“Hmm … I’m gonna pass on that one,” she said.

And she dismissed the idea of Auto-Tune altogether; which has been a cornerstone of so many hits by the likes of Katy Perry and Rihanna over the past several years. She first admitted that she had no idea that the vocal technology even exists.

“What is Auto-Tune. I don’t even know what Auto-Tune is,” she said. And after it was explained to her, she scoffed at the idea. “Oh, please. That’s ridiculous!”

Aretha is currently promoting her new album, Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics.
