America was thrown into a fiery tailspin yesterday when news broke that a grand jury decided not to indict police officer Darren Wilson for the shooting death of 18-year-old teen Mike Brown. And no other place in our nation was in more chaos afterwards than Ferguson, Missouri, which was rife with fires, police attacks and protests after the no indictment verdict was given. Naturally, news outlets like CNN were covering the protests, but CNN anchor Don Lemon gave viewers a shocking piece of information that had everyone calling foul against Lemon.
While live covering the protests in Ferguson, Lemon described the scene around him and told the camera that “Obviously, there’s a smell of marijuana in the air.”
As tasteless as the remark was, at this point we’re no longer that shocked at the lack of empathy that Lemon has shown the Black community during his coverage of Ferguson.
Just last week, Lemon found himself in hot water over his lack of compassion when he took a “blame the victim” angle in talking to one of Bill Cosby’s rape accusers and questioned why she didn’t stop the rape by just biting Cosby’s penis.
We guess there’s no sympathy for any oppressed victims when it comes to Lemon. – nicholas robinson
