Barack and Michele Obama’s romance is heading to the big screen! In the “Before Sunset” style flick titled Southside With You, viewers will get an intimate look into the summer of 1989, when Barack first wooed his future wife, Michelle during an unforgettable first date across Chicago’s South Side; home to many significant figures in the history of American politics.
Although the film is still in search of a young Barack, “The Haves And The Have Nots” star Tika Sumpter has signed on to play Michelle.
“Richard Tanne (Worst Friends, The Roman) is helming the indie feature from his own screenplay, and former Warner Independent exec Tracey Bing and Columbia Pictures’ alum Stephanie Allain (Hustle & Flow, Beyond The Lights) are producing for Allain’s Homegrown Pictures. The project originated with Tanne and Sumpter, who developed the script together and will executive produce. Filming is set to begin in July on location in Chicago,” Deadline reports.
