The transgender community has seen its visibility skyrocket over the past two years thanks to trans celebrities like Laverne Cox and Carmen Carrera. And now Candy magazine, the first fashion magazine dedicated to the trans community, is honoring the superstars of the trans female world with an iconic cover featuring Cox, Carrera and 12 other glamorous trans stars for the magazine’s fifth anniversary issue.
According to Out magazine, besides Cox and Carerra, the cover, which was shot by famed photographer Mariano Vivanco, features trans female stars like model-fashion designer Isis King, trans activist Janet Mock, model Geena Rocero, and Carrrera’s own drag mother, Carmen Extravaganza.
In an interview with Style.com, Candy founder Luis Venega gushed about the groundbreaking cover.
“It’s the first time such a large number of trans women have been featured on the cover of a magazine,” he stated. “Is it too daring to say that we’ve made history? Time will tell.”
Well, I think it’s safe to say already to say that this cover will go down in history as a game-changing moment in transgender history.
