Celebrities who have worked with Bill Cosby are starting to finally come out in support of the embattled comedian during his rape allegations scandal. The latest celebrity to offer support is Phylicia Rashad, who worked directly with Cosby and portrayed his wife Clair Huxtable on the hit TV program “The Cosby Show.”
During a star-studded luncheon screening of the movie Selma, Rashad was very strong in her defense of Cosby stating, “Forget these women. … What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it’s orchestrated. I don’t know why or who’s doing it, but it’s the legacy. And it’s a legacy that is so important to the culture.”
Rashad said she remained silent for so long because she did not want to be a part of the public debate surrounding Cosby. She went on to say, “This show represented America to the outside world. This was the American family. And now you’re seeing it being destroyed. Why?”
Rashad feels that the Cosby legacy has been tainted by the scandal and now people will only know Cosby for the scandal and not the great works he has accomplished in education and show business. She also does not blame Cosby for not talking about the scandal in detail stating, “If he spoke now, what do you think the media would do with it?”
