Rapper Cool C will not be put to death after 2nd stay of execution

Cool C was set to be executed today by lethal injection. However, he will get to live another day after being granted a second stay of execution. According a report by NBC Philadelphia, Cool C, whose real name is Chris Roney, was granted the stay of execution by Philadelphia Judge L. Felipe Restrepo.

Cool C was convicted of killing police officer Lauretha Vaird in 1996 during a bank robbery. Cool C and two other men, Ernest Canty and Warren McGlone, reportedly robbed the PNC Bank.


Prosecutors said Cool C fired shots after officer Vaird arrived on the scene. Canty and McGlone also said Cool C shot Vaird, but he has maintained his innocence. Cool C was sentenced to death two days after his conviction.

Cool C was a rising hip-hop star in the 1980s and released the hit single, “Glamorous Life,” in 1989.
