A White teenage couple is being hunted by police, for a 3-state crime spree that has covered Kentucky, South Carolina and Georgia. The couple has been identified as Dalton Hayes, 18, and his 13-year-old girlfriend Cheyenne Phillips. According to family members of Hayes, Phillips had fooled them into thinking she was 19 years old.
Family members and police fear that the couple’s brazen acts of theft are increasing as they have no source of income. They have been tied to a string of check forgeries and three car thefts that netted the pair two handguns. Hayes and Phillips left rural central Kentucky and drove 596 miles to Manning, South Carolina, then drove another 257 miles to Henry County, Georgia. It was in Henry County, 30 miles from Atlanta, that the pair ditched a pickup truck and stole another pickup that had two handguns. Authorities believe the pair is still in Georgia in the stolen truck.
The mother of Hayes has pleaded for the couple to turn themselves in to police as she is fearful of a terrible outcome.
“I pretty much cry myself to sleep every night worrying about where they are and if a police officer or any random individual tries to pull them over and isn’t so nice and hurts them,” said Tammy Martin.
But police have a bigger concern.
“Our biggest fear is that Dalton is not going to stop for the police. He’s going to run every time they approach him.” said Grayson County, Kentucky Sheriff Norman Chaffins, where the pair disappeared nearly two weeks ago.
The couple has been known to frequent Walmart shopping centers and should be considered armed and dangerous.
