Former NFL defensive end Chuck Smith joined the National Council on Youth Sports Safety (NCYSS) to raise awareness about the incidence of concussion among youth and high school athletes. During the Atlanta Community Huddle on Concussion, Smith joined Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Michael Johnson and Sochi bronze medalist and bobsledder Aja Evans for The Player’s Perspective moderated by Cari Champion of ESPN’s “First Take.”
The council is co-chaired by 16th U.S. Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher and clinical psychiatrist and professor Dr. Eliot Sorel. The Atlanta event marks the launch of a national tour that will impact 11 U.S. communities.
“NCYSS is the only organization comprised of a multidisciplinary panel of national authorities on medicine and public health, sports, and public policy. The PASS National Tour marks a significant opportunity to transform the way that local communities address injury and the best chance that we have to ensure that kids are able to realize the benefits of sports with reduced risks,” said Ashlyn Shockley, Executive Director.
