Julia Roberts to star in “Batkid” movie about Miles Scott, 6-year-old cancer survivor

Now if this doesn’t make your day, we don’t know what will…

Inspired by the true tale of 6-year-old Miles Scott, who survived cancer and captivated our hearts when he got to fulfill his dream of becoming a superhero, Roberts has decided to take his story to the big screen.

According to Variety, Roberts is set to produce and star in the film based on “Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World,” Dana Nachman’s documentary, which debuts at this year’s Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Nachman, will serve as executive producer of the new film.

“It’s thrilling to me that Ms. Roberts and her team watched our film and were so moved by it that they want to dedicate their time and creative capital to make sure the widest audience possible will know and love Miles’ story and the spirit of this intimate special event that went global, as much as we do,” Variety quoted Nachman.

At just 18-months-old, Miles, now 6 years old, was diagnosed with leukemia. His Make-A-Wish Foundation wish was to transform into Batman for a day. In mid-November, the foundation granted Miles’ (then 5 years old) wish.

“One of his doctors told us that with his disease, they just become like a fighter, you know, they have to be. They fight for life,” said Miles father, Nick Scott, in the documentary. “And so, I think he sees the ‘Good vs. Evil’ battle in superheroes and just relates to it.”

On Nov. 15, 2013, more than 20,000 people packed the streets of San Francisco as little Miles stopped villains and performed superhero acts like apprehending The Riddler, rescuing a damsel in distress, saving the San Francisco Giants mascot from the Penguin and running through the streets with an adult dresses like Batman. The city of San Fran became Gotham City just for him.

In November 2014, ABC 7 San Francisco reported that Miles remains in remission and entered the first grade.
