Legendary Hollywood hair stylist Robert L. Stevenson is retired, sorta. The man behind the many coif hairstyles of the highest grossing film actor ever just can’t put away his styling tools. Stevenson’s career stretches back further than 15 years ago when he started styling Samuel L. Jackson whom he met in Decatur, Georgia, on the set of “Just An Old Sweet Song” starring Robert Hooks and Cicely Tyson. Jackson was a stand-in.
Stevenson has been styling studio hair since the ’70s and his client roster has included Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy and Angela Bassett. The most recent ‘do styled by Stevenson was Chadwick Boseman’s who played James Brown in the biopic Get On Up.
During a recent stay in Atlanta, Stevenson took a break from the set to sit and chat with rolling out about creating some of the slickest ‘dos on film. As for his 2008 retirement, we’ll save that answer for another feature.
