Chinese supermarket caught selling raccoon meat

Metro Supermarket in Temple City, near Los Angeles has an interesting item in its frozen food section — raccoon meat. A shopper was in the Chinese-owned supermarket when she spotted the raccoon packaged at a staggering $9.99 per pound. Concerned, she took cellphone footage of the product and called the L.A. County Health Department. Health department officials did, in fact, determine that raccoon meat and parts were being sold at the market but it may not be illegal. It all depends on where the market got its supply of raccoon.

According to employees at the supermarket, it has been selling raccoon for years and that it is considered a Chinese delicacy. However, for now the supermarket has stopped selling the raccoon meat until it can determine how to properly sell the product.
