A group of racist teens will spend decades behind bars for killing a Black man. According to reports, seven teens from Brandon, Mississippi, were hunting for Black people to terrorize in the spring of 2011.
They went after Black people who they thought were homeless or intoxicated. James Craig Anderson, who worked at a car plant, was walking near a hotel when he encountered the teens. Deryl Paul Dedmon spotted Anderson and proceeded to run him over with his truck.
A surveillance camera captured the video of Anderson being run over repeatedly by the truck driven by Dedmon. Dedmon’s friends, Dylan Butler, John Rice, Sarah Graves, John Blalack and Robert Rice were also in the truck.
They were eventually arrested and charged with a hate crime. A federal judge sentenced Dedmon, now 22, to 50 years behind bars; Rice was sentenced to 18 years in prison; and Butler was handed a seven-year prison term.
The other individuals who were involved will be sentenced at a later date.
