Michael Vick returns to Atlanta as a businessman years after glory days with the Falcons

Michael Vick was once the most popular athlete to call Atlanta home. During his tenure with the Atlanta Falcons, Vick broke several NFL records while executing awe-inspiring plays that could only be duplicated in video games.

Vick’s reign came at a time when Atlanta’s hip-hop scene was thriving, the Civil Rights Movement had cemented its legacy, and Black-owned businesses were finding success. With Vick being a Black quarterback in a city with a majority Black population, he was a hero on and off the field.

However, Vick’s dogfighting conviction ended his career in Atlanta and it also tarnished his mystique as a football player. He was able to find some success with the Philadelphia Eagles after his prison stint. But after losing the starting position due to injury in his fifth year with the team, he signed with New York Jets and served as back-up to Geno Smith.

But now that Vick’s glory days appear to be winding down, he is putting himself in a position to find success in life after football.

On Feb. 21, Vick returned to Atlanta where he appeared at the Bronner Bros. Hair Show at the Georgia World Congress Center. Vick was on hand to sell his new WaveMasterz hair products. He purchased a 40 percent stake in the company and sales have skyrocketed since he jumped on board. Reportedly, 500,000 units were shipped before Christmas 2014.

While at the Bronner Bros. hair show, Vick signed autographs and took pics with fans who purchased the brush, which cost $10. In less than hour, Vick was nearly sold out of the brush that features a mirror on the handle.

Vick often improvised while running during his time as a pro athlete in Atlanta. Nearly 10 years after his final snap with the Falcons, he has returned to score big in the field of business.
