Although Will Smith will not be returning for Independence Day 2, Vivica A. Fox has announced that she will reprise her role as single mother and exotic dancer Jasmine Dubrow. According to Variety, Fox will join Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher and Charlotte Gainsbourg, who have already been cast in the 20th Century Fox film.
Nearly 20 years following the 1996 original, Ronald Emmerich will return to helm the sequel, from a script by Carter Blanchard. Dean Devlin, Emmerich and Harald Kloser are producing.

“Survivor’s Remorse” star Usher who was cast earlier this month in the lead role, will take on the role of the son of Will Smith’s Steven Hiller; an original character from Independence Day. Despite Smith’s absence from the sci-fi flick, with other A-list stars like Liam Hemsworth on board, this film may very well have a fighting chance at the box office. Will you buy a ticket?
