Dwayne Johnson is bringing his vocal skills to a big screen near you. Yesterday, the Furious 7 star shared via social media that he’s signed on to voice the male lead in Disney’s 2016 animated musical Moana.
Not only that, but Johnson will also sing in the animated feature. Here’s what he had to say via Instagram:
“At DISNEY STUDIOS signing contracts to play the male lead in their next big classic animated musical, #MOANA. Just had an amazing 2hr presentation and it’s easy to see why they’re the greatest story tellers in the world. Im excited. And in the background my homies Fred & Wasabi from #BigHERO6 are jumpin’ for joy joy cause they heard I’m gonna sing in the movie. #WeTrulyKnowWhereWereGoing #WhenWeUnderstandWhereWereFrom #NeverForgetHome #MOANA”
In the Instagram snap, the 42-year-old can be seen flashing his pearly whites as he points to cheering cutouts from the Academy Award-winning movie Big Hero 6.
The comedy-adventure Moana, tells the tale of a young lady who uses her navigational skills to journey to a fabled island. Traveling alongside he, will be the legendary demi-god Maui, which is exactly where Johnson steps in. While this may seem like a stretch for Johnson, you may recall, he’s already flexed his skills as a demi-god in the 2014 film, Hercules. In the meantime, The People’s Champ is set to appear on the big screen in Furious 7, in theaters April 3. Will you be buying a ticket?
