As the summer blockbuster season approaches, audiences are reminded of the movie sequels that have yet to grace the silver screen. Despite the continuous flow of Marvel Cinematic Universe entries and the Fast & Furious saga, certain follow-ups have fans clamoring for more.

  • Friday franchise: Ice Cube and Chris Tucker have hinted at Warner Bros. being a roadblock to a new Friday movie, leaving the franchise’s future uncertain.
  • Kill Bill Vol. 3: Quentin Tarantino once teased a plot involving Vernita’s daughter seeking vengeance, but his retirement plans may have shelved this revenge saga indefinitely.
  • Ocean’s crossover: An Avengers-style crossover between the male and female teams of the Ocean’s series is a concept fans would love to see materialize.
  • The Princess and the Frog continuation: Despite plans for a sequel and live-action adaptation, Disney’s progress seems stagnant, with a theme park attraction being the only development.
  • District 9: Director Neill Blomkamp has periodically mentioned progress on a sequel to the acclaimed alien invasion film, yet no concrete steps have been taken.
  • Girls Trip: Recent comments from Tiffany Haddish and Will Packer suggest a sequel may be on the horizon for the beloved Flossy Posse.
  • The Old Guard: Netflix has confirmed a sequel to the action-packed film about immortal mercenaries, with key cast members set to return.
  • Black Panther 3: While Marvel Studios has a packed schedule, there’s no official word on a third Black Panther film, with the team still recovering from the emotional production of ‘Wakanda Forever.’
  • The Goonies: Decades later, the nostalgia for The Goonies endures, with fans continually hoping for a follow-up.
  • White Chicks: The cult classic’s potential for a modern sequel is debated, but its quotability keeps it in the public’s favor.
  • Hobbs and Shaw: Plans for another adventure with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham may have shifted with the Fast X storyline.
  • Knives Out: Another whodunit with Daniel Craig’s detective is likely, but the cast remains a mystery.
  • National Treasure 3: The enigmatic page 47 mentioned in Book of Secrets continues to intrigue fans awaiting its revelation.
  • The Princess Diaries 3: Despite the stars’ successful careers, a return to Genovia to check in on Queen Mia is highly desired.

While some of these sequels may remain in the realm of wishful thinking, the anticipation and excitement they generate are a testament to the lasting impact of their original films. As the industry evolves, perhaps some of these sequels will finally move from dream to reality, much to the delight of eager fans.
